How to Download WordPress for XAMPP
If you're looking to develop a WordPress website locally using XAMPP, you'll need to download the necessary files. XAMPP is a tool that allows you to run a web server on your computer, providing a self-contained environment for testing and development. Follow these steps to download WordPress for XAMPP and get started on your WordPress site.
Step 1: Download XAMPP
The first step is to download XAMPP from the Apache Friends website. Visit https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html and click the "Download" button. Choose the version of XAMPP that is compatible with your operating system and click the download button.
Step 2: Install XAMPP
Once you've downloaded XAMPP, run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation process. You will be asked to select the components you want to install, but you'll likely want to include all the available components. Make sure that you remember the directory where XAMPP is installed.
Step 3: Download WordPress
Next, navigate to the WordPress website at https://wordpress.org/download/ and download the zip file containing the latest version of WordPress. Save the zip file to a folder on your computer.
Step 4: Extract WordPress
After you have downloaded the WordPress zip file, extract it to a folder on your computer. Make sure you remember the location of this folder, as you'll need it in the next step.
Step 5: Move WordPress to the htdocs folder
Now that you have downloaded XAMPP and WordPress, you need to move the WordPress files to the htdocs folder in the XAMPP directory. The htdocs folder is where XAMPP places the files that are served by the web server. Go to the location where you installed XAMPP and find the htdocs folder. Move the entire WordPress folder that you extracted in Step 4 to the htdocs folder.
Step 6: Create a database for WordPress
WordPress requires a database to store its content. To create a database, open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/. Click on the "Databases" tab and enter a name for your new database. Click on "Create" and your new database will be created.
Step 7: Install WordPress
Now that you have moved the WordPress files to the htdocs folder and created a database, you can install WordPress. Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/wordpress/. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process, which will include entering your database name, username, and password.
Congratulations, you have successfully downloaded WordPress for XAMPP and installed it on your local machine. You're now ready to start developing your WordPress website in a self-contained environment. Happy coding!
